Architect Nurlan Kamitov became the first in Kazakhstan to become an honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, reports vecher.kz.
Almaty resident Nurlan Kamitov was one of 20 residents of the metropolis who won the "100 New Faces of Kazakhstan" project, sharing his unique success story. He was the first in Kazakhstan to become an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
"Kazakhstan has never had an architect who was a member of RIBA, and this is very rare in the CIS," says Nurlan Kamitov.
Members of this organization include Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Nicholas Grimshaw, and Frank Lloyd Wright. To become an Honorary Fellow of RIBA, one must have a solid portfolio of completed projects and a high standard of all design work. RIBA membership offers tremendous opportunities – it not only guarantees quality but also the opportunity to work on international platforms. Being admitted to RIBA membership is a high recognition of one's work and proof of the level of Kazakhstani design, which is on par with recognized global standards.
"RIBA will enable us to rank alongside international architects and architectural firms, which will be a significant competitive advantage in various competitions and tenders. Honorary membership also grants the right to be called an architect in the UK, which is very important. It also provides access to an internal information network (to the latest research in architectural technology), various conferences, and the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues around the world," notes Nurlan Kamitov.
It's important to understand that the architectural profession requires extensive, continuous education and self-education. Early in your career, you need to compete in competitions, work extensively and pro bono, and continually refine your presentation skills. At the same time, practitioners must also maintain their knowledge of the engineering and construction industry, which means continually expanding their academic foundation.
The development process can take up to ten years and requires an education recognized in the UK.
In the near future, the Almaty-based architect and his colleagues plan to participate in international competitions and projects open only to a select group of architects, including in the UK. "We are currently working on projects in the US together with local companies. We are developing exciting projects for multifunctional complexes, business centers, residential neighborhoods, and urban development projects in Miami, USA. For us, this represents new experience, new opportunities, and new standards. The American and European markets represent not only new markets but also a new level of design, knowledge, and projects," concluded the winner of the "100 New Faces of Kazakhstan" project.
